Johnson Park Update: A Lot Taking Shape
Since our last Johnson Park update, restroom and shelter construction is the main headline.
Near the Green Loop main trailhead, Kent County Parks is building what is shaping up to be an incredible park and trailhead experience — a true Premier Park and Grand River Greenway Hub with expanded parking, access to paved non-motorized trails in both directions, expansive green space, covered shelters, restrooms, and, of course, quick access to what will soon be one of the best mountain bike trail systems in West Michigan.
How soon? We’re working on a date. Stay tuned.
MTB Trail Updates
Signage design is moving forward. WMMBA has partnered with Chris Cordle, the signage design maestro behind Mosquito Creek’s signage portfolio. Chris is helping us develop a system focused on clear directional designations and adaptive trail ratings.
Chris’ experience, combined with guidance from the Johnson Park Support Team, is helping us blend the practical with the creative. Johnson Park will have several trail intersections, scenic drive crossings, and multiple access points, so intuitive navigation is critical.
The vision is a trail system where riders can choose their own adventure:
• Want to session your favorite section on alternating days? You can.
• Want to create a shorter loop connecting the best flowy and fast downhills? You can.
• Looking for a climbing-forward adventure? Easy.
Accurate signage and thoughtful trail connections will make all of that possible while improving accessibility and creating a better experience for a wide range of riders.
Trail Construction Update
Two of the three Flow Zone jump lines are now roughed in, along with a one-way return trail.
A majority of the XC Blue Trail is also roughed in and connected.
Project partners remain on track for a Fall opening of the original six miles, with the complete eight-mile system to follow later this year.
There is a lot happening behind the scenes, and we’ll keep the updates coming.
In the meantime, please continue to respect all construction areas, trail closures, and posted signage.
We’re getting closer!
